Mary Ann Carr
Educator, Writer, Workshop
Leader, Motivational Speaker.
Mary Ann Carr, a 27 year veteran educator, began
writing mysteries for kids to solve while teaching gifted students. Each
of her four mystery books are designed to develop critical thinking
skills. Her three "One Hour Mysteries" remain on the publisher's best
sellers list. The first of them garnered national recognition by
Learning Magazine as one of 40 "must have" curricular materials
for the classroom.
Mary
Ann currently is an educational consultant frequently
employed by school systems to conduct workshops
where she provides practical, time-saving tools
that help teachers implement differentiated instruction
in their classrooms. Her
first book on that mainstream subject, entitled "Differentiation
Made Simple: Timesaving Tools For Teachers," is scheduled
for release by Prufrock Press in the spring of 2009.

She recognizes also that parents
have a critical role in the education of their kids. To that end, she
has developed a practical "Toolkit"
that empowers parents to
complement the education offered by schools. The "Parent Toolkit"
(available for download) is premised on evidence
that kids learn best through questions that tap their own curiosity to
learn, and not through answers that often end
any further inquiry on their part.
In addition to frequent speaking engagements,
Mary Ann recurrently teaches in the College of William and Mary’s summer enrichment
program for gifted children
She holds an
graduate degree
in Curriculum Development from Virginia Commonwealth University.

"A lot of the things that I do, it's not all
art. Some of it's design, some of it's illustration, some of it's
graphics, some of it's concept, some of it's business and some of it,
hopefully, is art." -- Ken Done

In
his free time, David writes occasional essays and short
pieces in both fiction and non-fiction. He is also
working on a time-travel novel for young adults.
The novel is an
historically-based "what if" tale built around Orville Wright's "dive brake,"a 1920 invention that played a decisive role in the naval air
victories in the Pacific during World War II.
